The European standard EN 9100 is the standard of the aerospace and defense industry. To cooperate with an aerospace company, having a certification according to this standard is mandatory for all suppliers. UNI EN 9100 certification allows organizations in the aerospace and defense sectors to comply with particularly high quality standards and enhance the commitment to quality, safety and reliability and to meet customer needs.

History

UNI EN 9100 is a widely adopted and standardized quality management system for the aerospace industry. It was initially released in October 1999 by the Society of Automotive Engineers and the European Association of Aerospace Industries. UNI EN 9100 includes the current version of ISO 9001, adding requirements related to quality and safety. Major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers worldwide require compliance and / or registration with UNI EN 9100 as a condition for doing business with them.

Before adopting a specific aerospace quality standard, companies used ISO 9001 and their own complementary documentation / quality requirements, such as Boeing’s D1-9000 or automotive Q standard. This has created a patchwork of requirements that arwase difficult to apply and / or comply with; for this reason, aerospace manufacturers have joined their efforts to create a single unified quality standard, based on ISO 9001: 1994, which led to UNI EN 9100.
